Putin on Christian Values

Having spent the last decade living in a Christian "society," this is a bit of an issue for me.

The main problem I have is that these values this society has are not what I understand Christian values to actually be. And the blame lies in large part with the corrupt, degenerate teaching of the Catholic church, which seems unable to deal with its own internal problems, let alone the problems of wider Christian societies.

The discussion that starts at 20 mins 30 seconds gets close to the root of the problems. Why did the girls go to stay with this abuser in Germany? Because they wanted a better life, and this was the only opportunity they would be likely to get. What these abusers exploit is the economic power of the church. And this is what lies at the root of my personal animosity towards all Christian churches here in Bolivia: they all abuse their economic power; perhaps not always sexually, but in many other ways. They will help the poor, but only if those poor profess their belief in Jesus Christ the saviour and are willing to identify as part of their church. This is a pernicious evil, and the result is that the majority of Christian congretations do not really understand anything about God, and do not genuinely believe what they profess to others.

Update: Putin meets the Pope.
