Trying to destroy the tech., I mean, because you can't destroy knowledge. Once you have it, you have to understand how to use it for good, to make the kind of society where nobody would even think of using it for evil. It is only the failure of Human Imagination that makes any knowledge seem inherently dangerous or evil.
Now lying, or knowledge about who is lying, and when, ... well, that's another thing altogether.
And as to who is really Bill and who is merely called Budd, well that knowledge cannot be destroyed.
