Geometry in Islamic Art

These designs all start with constructions of regular polygons in circles.

The New York Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art recreated part of a Morroccan Court in the museum, using traditional techniques and materials.

At 5 minutes 2 seconds there is an interesting example of interaction between large and small scales of an integral design.

I looked for some tutorial on using Javascript and SVG that would show the mechanics of how people could program some of these constructions onto a web page, but I couldn't find one! See Women Programming Computers.

Here's Craig Kaplan of University of Waterloo talking about computing tiling designs

Peter Lu has found geometric elements in 12th Century Islamic tilings which were not studied in the West until the 1970s.
