Denis Donaldson was Sinn Féin representative to NORAID in the US in 1989. Later, in 2002, during the Stormont talks, it emerged that an IRA intelligence unit had had access to very high-level political material, including recordings of phone calls between the British Prime Minister and the American President. Shortly after this Donaldson turned himself in to a police station in Ireland and confessed to having been a British spy for twenty years. Later, on 4th April 2006, Donaldson was killed in what superficially appeared to be a typical IRA execution. But the IRA did not believe this. See this Irish News story from January 2016.

The IRA changed their strategy around the time Lord Louis Mountbatten was assassinated. They started then to focus on intelligence gathering and analysis rather than terrorism. Search for "The Day Mountbatten Died" Brendan Burns IRA. I don't know whether this refers to the Brendan Burns who supposedly works for Microsoft in the USA, and who wrote an O'Reilly book on distributed computing, but it wouldn't surprise me if it does. I have no idea whether or not he has any connection with the IRA however.
Mountbatten interviewed in 1969. I have no idea what he's talking about, but what he says about it sounds eminently sensible, to me.
As I recall, the only phorensic evidence tying the IRA member convicted of carrying out the bombing of Mountbatten's bright green boat Shadow 5, was a tiny amount of Admiralty paint found on his shoes, which, it was assumed, could only have come from the accused setting foot on the boat. So, there was no conceivable way in which someone could have obtained this sample of paint from, say, the workshop of the man who painted that boat? Well, if you say so, then it must be true, so I would be a fool if I disagreed.
The discussion from 22 minutes 13 seconds is laughable. Clearly predating the arrival of Rupert Murdoch, ...
McGuiness was at Bloody Sunday and Stormont. Look after him, please! Oops.
Prince Charles visits Omagh, in Northern Ireland after the bombing in 1998 which killed 29 and injured 220. It was the single deadliest incident of the troubles in Northern Ireland. The real-IRA apparently claimed responsibility. It was the real-IRA who claimed responsibility for the killing of Denis Donaldson too. They were also supposedly responsible for the ludicrous attack on the office of Sir Richard Dearlove in the London HQ of MI6.
This proves Satish Kumar is not afraid to confront terrorists either! 😂
So, can somebody please tell my why we needed Wikileaks? Ask Julian Assange. We need secure communications, people.
THE Stormontgate arrest of Sinn Féin special adviser Denis Donaldson was orchestrated to protect the senior republican after his cover as a double agent was blown when the IRA stole classified documents from Castlereagh, it has been alleged.
Senior IRA sources have claimed that it was his own associates and not Special Branch who 'outed' Donaldson forcing him to make a shock public confession in 2005, four months later he was shot dead at a rural cottage in Donegal.
...
It is now believed that the IRA had known about Donaldson's double life since his arrest in 2002 when they deciphered the stolen Castlereagh documents and that his arrest may have been orchestrated by the PSNI to protect their agent.
Information Donaldson had passed on during his time as an informer was politically rather than 'militarily' sensitive. His codename P O'Neill appears repeatedly throughout the stolen Castlereagh documents.

He was said to have been the British government's mole within the party during the Good Friday peace negotiations.See UK Justice and this post on other goings-on in 1989.

In the 1950s and 1960s, Murdoch acquired a number of newspapers in Australia and New Zealand before expanding into the United Kingdom in 1969, taking over the News of the World, followed closely by The Sun..... and Robert Maxwell
At the beginning of 1969, it emerged that Maxwell's attempt to buy the News of the World had failed. This talk Martin McGuiness gave in 2012, at the Hudson Union Society is an eye-opener. Read the notes on YouTube.

On 6 March 2017 McGuinness was hospitalised at Derry's Altnagelvin Area Hospital due to ill health. He died on 21 March, at the age of 66.
